Dec 6, 2008 - Too Much Too Soon?

Yesterday I was just not hungry. The pics revealed that I ate only a cup of sweet potatoes and about 3/4 cup of black beans (with a little cheese). Woke up this morning and STILL not hungry. I'm assuming because it's winter and we normally hibernate, that must have something to do with it.

Here's a little known fact: Every morning when I wake up, I pinch my belly. The "Special K Pinch-An-Inch" pinch. (I guess that commercial went off the air since many of us can pinch WAY more than an inch. It first aired in 1979) This morning, that distance between my thumb and other fingers felt, well, less far apart. That's a great way to start a day. (Found the commercial on YouTube. Posted below. Look how thin that woman is by today's standards.)

So I jumped on the scale - 226.2 lbs! Yikes! I jumped on again. 226! WTF?! How does someone lose 4 lbs in a day?! One more time - 226.2 was the final answer.

I'm only supposed to lose 4 lbs in a month - not in one day! The good news is that I'm on-track to lose 1-lb a week. The bad new is, that according to my agreement with Brad, you don't get to carry-over extra lost weight one month to the next. So, if I lose 30lbs this month, I still have to lose 4 lbs the next month. So, I don't want to lose too much too fast. I know that the initial weight will drop off and that it'll get tougher after that, so I need to sort of pace myself.

However, it's been a year since I was under 227. I am certainly not going to complain.

Breakfast with Mom at 10am. I promise to eat something.

Breakfast - 2 Cups of Dunkin' Donuts® French Vanilla Coffee. Before I left the house, I was shaking the excess sugar off of the cookies I made yesterday. My snowflake cookie broke, so I ate JUST THE PIECE that broke off (where my finger it pointing.) It was delicious and I tore myself away from eating the whole thing.

Went to Perkins with Mom. My eggs came out runny. Ick. I scraped away the runny stuff and ate the remaining eggs, toast and sausage. Glass of OJ finished breakfast.

Dinner - Breakfast was late. Wasn't hungry til 6:30pm. Ate 5 slices of yams. They were sorta thick. I had 3 more in case I was still hungry -- but wasn't. Only ate what is pictured here.

Snack - 2 more corners of that cookie.

Dec 6, 2008

That beer and cookie dough did me in. Up 1/2 lb to 230.2. We'll fix that today.

Some of you inquired about the books I'm showing. Just like I feed my body, I also feed my head. I'm sharing books from my collection that inspire me and make me think or books that I enjoy. Since I'm a hound for a bargain, I supply the links to Amazon where you can pick them up on the cheap.

Today's book - Unjournaling: Daily Writing Exercises that Are NOT Personal, NOT Introspective, NOT Boring!. For those of us who like to write (or wish that they could write better), this is an excellent collection of exercises to shake the cobwebs off of your brain and to describe events in a new way.

Breakfast - 2 cups of coffee (w/Equal and Half & Half). Flax Oil Tab.

Lunch - Ooops. Forgot to eat until 3:25pm. Really wasn't hungry. Cooked up 1/2 sweet potato (can you tell I love sweet potatoes?). Baked it. Sprinkled 1/4 teaspoon powdered sugar on it cuz I saw it served that way at a local restaurant. Meh. Don't need to do that again.

Dinner - Hmm. 7pm and I'm not really hungry. I just don't like eating late if I can help it. Took out that other 1/2 can of black beans, heated them up and a little cheese.

Are You A Fatty?

Before you get your Politically Correct undies in a bunch, I need to explain what I mean by the term "Fatty".

I'm a Fatty. It is a self-realized state. Just like I call myself a "homo", but don't approve of being called a "homo" by those who don't know me, I'm a self-ascribed Fatty. No, I'm not as big as some people, but I don't care about what other people choose to do with their bodies. No, I'm not clinically obese, but that doesn't mean that I'm not truthful about my body size.

I'm also not necessarily down on myself. I know plenty of people who still find me attractive and who find bigger people attractive. Bless their hearts. Here's hoping they still think I'm hot when I drop the weight.

So, I'm a Fatty. I will probably still be a Fatty until I reach my goal weight. Even then, like a recovering alcoholic, I might still call myself a Fatty. I'm OK with it. I'm owning it.

Are you a Fatty?

Walk It Out, Fatty.

Bob & I have talked about getting a treadmill at the house and rigging our computers up to it. Walkstations have been around for several years, and at work today, my boss sent around an email about someone who had inquired about one.

Who wouldn't love losing 600 calories a day while strolling at 2 mph? That would burn off several small bags of chips!

On the downside, to get one at work would cost $5K. Yes, five thousand dollars. I'm trying to convince my boss that my health is worth the investment, but I don't think he's buying it yet.

And yes, in this picture, I think she needs to let he co-worker take a shift on the Walkstation.

Cheat - Take 10 Pounds off With An HP Camera

That's right, Fatties! The technology came out in 2007, but few people know about it.

HP is producing several cameras with "fun effects" that include "slimming" the person being photographed. Have someone take a picture of you with this camera and look 10lbs thinner. The feature is currently available on the HP Photosmart R527, M627, R725, R727, R827, R927 and R967 digital camera models.

Friday morning and my blessed coffee tasted so good. One of my irrational fears is that I will end up in a resthome in my old age and they won't allow me to have coffee.

Today's book is Cooking for Healthy Living by Jane Fonda. Yeah, laugh all you will, but it's one of my favorite recipe books. I bought a copy years ago and when I lent it out and never got it back, I had to buy another (it was that good). When I was doing some catering work years ago, I used this book for the excellent fresh pasta ragut sauce with chunky cooked tomatoes, onions and garlic. It's still one of my favorite sauces. There's also some nice dessert recipes including a simple raspberry sorbet. Again, buy it for as little as a penny on Amazon.

Breakfast - 2 cups of coffee and a Flax Oil Tab. Had a small bowl of oatmeal at work and a small banana.

Lunch - Back to Gourmand's for my excellent Salad Wrap and a cup of soup and a Arizona Tea. If you end up at Gourmand's ask them for the "Nick Salad Wrap".

Dinner - Met a friend after dinner. Order a Christmas Ale and drank about 1/5 of it. I hate beer on balance, so I knew I wouldn't drink it. Dumb, maybe, but I didn't swill that many calories. Came home and had a cup of sweet potatoes and some black beans. Yum!

Snack - You didn't expect me to NOT try the cookie dough, did you?! The good news is that I took my usual size hunk of dough. Then cut it in half. Then cut it in half again. Then flattened it down. That was just enough to make my sweet tooth happy.

SnapItFatty.com -- It's a Reality, now.

Bob liked the name "Snap It, Fatty", so I registered it as a domain name.

Look forward to T-Shirts, Seminars, Merchandise and Board Games.

And a Talk Show. There should always be a talk show.

Dec 4, 2008

Oops. Starting drinking the first cup of coffee before snapping it. The new Blogger-in-Draft is screwing up the pics and I'm none too happy about that. Today's book is The Theatermania Guide to Musical Theater Recordings , a fun & informative guide to musical cast albums. Which to buy, which to skip an why. Filled with fun history and info. Buy it used for a buck on Amazon.

Weight Update - 229.8! This is the first time in MONTHS I've been below 230. Amazing what watching your portions (and being accountable for everything you eat) will do.

Breakfast - Two cups of coffee & Flax Oil.

Lunch - The other 1/2 of yesterday's sandwich. 1/2 an apple. The apple isn't huge. It's just that the sandwich is small.

Dinner - The leftover sausage/peppers/onions from dinner the other night. 3/4 cup of baked sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were over baked, but I still ate them. If I get hungry later on, I might bake up a few more.

Snack - About 90 mins after dinner I was still craving those sweet potatoes, so I baked another 3/4 cup. Not burnt this time!

Dec 3, 2008

It's Day 3 and I don't feel like I want to kill anyone. That's a good thing. Yesterday's jump on the scale didn't reveal any massive weight loss (I hate that scale.)

Today we have a "Team Building" day at work. Actually, it's off-site, so I'm sure there will be food surrounding us.

As usual, started the day with my two cups of coffee. Once the Half & Half is gone from the house, I'll switch over to milk.

In the one picture is a new book I'm flipping through, 2Do Before I Die by Michael Ogden & Chris Day. It's one of those compilation books where average folks write about things they want to accomplish before they take their dirt nap. I've included the link for the book in the right column. I love that you can buy used books on Amazon - this one is only 3 cents!

Breakfast - Two cups of coffee & Flax Oil. Breakfast was provided at the conference. Had the Fruit and a bagel with 1/2 tablespoon cream cheese. Around 11am, had the banana. It was dark from sitting in my cold car, but it was still enjoyable.

Lunch - Provided at the conference. Ate 1/2 cup of chicken soup and 1/2 of the roast beef sandwich with horseradish. It was wonderful. I'm so proud that I didn't devour the other 1/2 there. (Brought it home) Ate 1/2 the cookie at lunch and at about 3pm at the other 1/2.

Dinner - Went to dinner at Pier W with Russ. Glass of red wine and a fabulous salad from the bar menu. It was small, but I ate it slowly and enjoyed each bite.

Weight Update - 231.4 (woot!)

Dec 2, 2008

After looking at yesterday's pictures, I'm shocked at how much food there actually is. That's about half of what I was putting into my mouth two days ago, and it sure doesn't account for the usual afternoon candy bar, the sweets that I'd nibble on at the house or the "right before bedtime" something I'd gnaw on before hitting the sheets. Taking a picture of the food I'm eating certainly slows me down to think about what I'm eating.

Breakfast - 2 cups of coffee (with Equal & a couple of TBs of half & half). Flax Oil Tab. An egg, black beans, 1/2 piece of homemade bread (dry!)

Lunch - Having lunch with Zak & Dan is dangerous. I ate about 4/5ths of a plate of sweet & sour chicken and steamed rice. I didn't eat the fortune cookie. Does that count for anything?

Dinner - Mom & I went out to Caffe Roma. A favorite of ours. The home made wedding soup is amazing. We could have stopped there, but I ordered the sausage w/peppers and onions. AND only ate half of it. The other 1/2 came home. It was delicious and pushing myself away from the table was a bit of a challenge. But mission accomplished - thank you very much.

REACTION: After looking at this post and comparing it to what the author eats in "Everything I Ate", this is still a LOT of food. I need to really redefine how much food I actually need to take in to keep my body alive, but not over feed it.

Dec 1, 2008

2 cups of coffee with Equal, a bit of half & half (foamed up) and a Flax Oil pill (I started those to be good to my heart about a week ago.)

Real breakfast is 15 grapes, a strawberry and a small banana. I also have water at my desk, but I won't be photographing water. You'd see a LOT of water if I did.

Lunch - Salad wrap (mixed greens, walnuts, dried canberries, feta cheese with hot honey mustard dressing in a grilled wrap) and an Arizona Blueberry White Tea.

Dinner - 1/2 can of black beans w/TB cheese, 2 mini-slices of ham & 1/2 slice of bread. Dessert? 1/2 of a yam - baked.

----------------------------------------

My weight is down from yesterday.232.6 lbs

It's 10:20am and I'm hungry. Was going to nuke a bowl of instant oatmeal, but gonna try to wait it out until 11:30am for lunch.

-----------------------------

12:23pm. Back from lunch. I realized that I completely chowed down the first half of my salad wrap. From that point on, I became a lot more mindful of what I was eating, ate more slowly, and enjoyed the flavors.

I Will NOT Succumb

From Gizmodo: The $30 device slips into a pair of jeans or slacks and does as advertised. It stretches them out to a more pleasing and comfortable size 40, or whatever your waistline might be after a full day of gorging on turkey, potatoes and pie. The stretcher promises to breath new life into your old wardrobe by adding one to five inches of extra girth. All you have to do is moisten the waistband of your pants, shorts or skirts and insert the stretcher. It's "easier and more economical than taking tight-waisted clothes to the tailor for alterations," says the marketing spiel, and who are we to argue?! The sad thing for the heftiest amongst us is the Waistband Stretcher only "rescues" garments with waistbands ranging from 21" to 45".
